WARSAW INFORMATION |
| Warsaw, the capital and the largest city of Poland, is located in the central part of the country. It is a city with an interesting history, nowadays full of activity, where the past meets the future. |

Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport is located about 10 km from the city centre. It has a post office, a bank, exchange bureaux (in Polish “kantor”), ATM machines and car rental. There is also the tourist information office at the Arrival Hall. Getting to the hotel from the Airport by taxi cab is the most time-saving and efficient way. The tariff will be approximately 30 – 50 PLN depending on a time of the day and traffic jams (The price for the night tariff is double). The taxi stop of the the companies recommended by the airport authorities (MPT Radio Taxi, Sawa Taxi or Taxi Merc) is situated in front of exit of the arrival hall. At the arrival hall of the airport you may be approached by people offering you private taxi cab service. It is recommended to ignore these offers and proceed to a corporate taxi service. If a taxi does not have a light and phone number on the top you are cautioned not to choose that cab. |

The bus ride on this route will take approximately 40-60 minutes, although in rush-hour traffic the time can be up to 1,5 hour. The bus is the cheapest way to get from the airport, but you have to keep a good eye on your properties due to pickpocket, which is especially frequent in the buses going to/from the airport. |

The venue for the EUROEPI 2009 is the Old Library at the University of Warsaw, which is situated in the most beautiful part of Warsaw, nearby the Old Town – on Krakowskie Przedmieście St. 26/28. The main entrance to the University of Warsaw is shown in the picture. The Old Library is located straight from the main entrance. Public transport consists of a network of tramlines,
buses and underground.
Tickets are available from bus terminals and from the majority of newspaper stands (they are marked with red and yellow ZTM logo). Tickets are valid for all means of municipal transport. The ticket should be validated in the designated machine (yellow coloured) within the vehicle immediately after boarding. When travelling by metro, you should validate the ticket at the entrance gate before entering the platform, or in the validating machine available next to the lift. 1-day, 3-day and 7-day tickets must be validated once, at the beginning of the first ride. |

| Taxi |
| Maximum rate per kilometer is about 2,5 – 3,00 PLN during a day, and it is twice higher at night after 10 p.m. Additional start fee is always charged which is no more than 6 PLN. The driver should give you a receipt (rachunek) on demand. |

The Tourist Card allows you to visit Warsaw museums free of charge or with a discount. With this Card you also receive a public transport ticket to make transportation easier. This Card also provides you with discounts to various art galleries, accommodations, sightseeing tours within Warsaw and the area, restaurants, shops and car rentals. Cards are available at the Warsaw Tourist Information Centres. Prices of Cards: a 24h card - 35 PLN; a 3-day card - 65 PLN. |

| Climate |
| The climate in Poland is always unpredictable, however, it is expected warm and dry summer and mild winters. At the end of August, temperatures usually range from 18o to 26o of Celsius ( 64-79°F). More information about current weather can be found here. |

Polish currency unit is called "zloty" (abbr.
PLN or zl) and it is divided into 100 groszy (abbr.
gr).
You can change cash in the airport,
banks,
hotels and exchanges called "Kantor".
The rates are always listed outside and may slightly vary between different exchange offices.
Please do not accept exchange offers from strangers.
Current exchange rate is 1€ = 4.10 PLN.
Most restaurants, hotels, travel agencies and shops accept credit cards. The most popular are Visa (also Visa Electron), Master Card (also Maestro and Eurocard) but many others are accepted, e.g., American Express, Diners Club, JCB. Cash dispensers (ATMs) accept major credit cards and are easily accessible in many places. |

Official language in Poland is Polish. In general, Polish populationdoesn't speak English, although many of young Poles do speak English as a second language. |

Most shops in Poland are open from 9.00 to 19.00, Monday-Friday, and from 9.00 to 14.00 on Saturdays. |
| Tipping |
| In Poland, tips are welcome especially at hotels and restaurants. |
| Parking |
| In the centre of Warsaw there are areas where parking is payable from Monday to Friday (8 a.m.- 6 p.m.). |
| Electricity |
| Poland's electricity supply is 230 volts (50Hz), and typical (continental) European outlets are in use. |

You can easily buy and send postcards almost everywhere in Warsaw.
If you want to send the postcard you should put it into one of the post office red boxes.
The name of the post office is Poczta Polska.
The stamp for an "economical" postcard or letter (i.e.
up to 6 days for Europe) costs 2.40 PLN. |

| Visa requirements |
|
Poland follows the Schengen Agreement provisions and the subsequent acquis concerning short-term visa issues.
Countries applying the Schengen acquis in full follow a common visa policy for short-term stays of up to three (3) months in the Schengen area.
The citizens of these countries are not subjected to border controls within the common area (airlines or other carriers require identification (ID) Card or passport or any other piece of identification issued by a public authority).
Holders of regular passports from the rest of the world need a visa in order to enter Poland (and the Schengen area).
